Crown is a queer, woman owned, independent hair salon with chair rentals located in the heart of the West Village. The owner, Alexis Wheeler, is an artist and has been a licensed hairstylist for 30 years, and she founded Crown in 2009. Alexis did so after having worked for other salons in New York City for decades, watching over 50% of her wages go to salon owners. Hairdressing is her first creative love and she wanted to find a way to make a better living while staying in the downtown area. Crown was opened before the current wave of salon suites, and we believe Crown is still a unique and superior space to support and grow your business. Crown is a special collective of master hairstylists that feels less like a salon and more like a cozy little retreat, where we all work independently and support each other. It is a community of talented artists who take our craft seriously and care deeply about our clients. We work in a 2 chair space so there is no impersonal feel, and we each have agency over the energy that our clients experience. We’re currently seeking stylists interested in renting monthly, 1, 2 or 3 days per week.

Available days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You set your own hours within those days — we trust you to know what works best for you and your clients.

Monthly rates:

1 day a week, $1000 monthly

2 days a week, $1675 monthly

3 days a week $2450 monthly
